Sunday Swing | Justin Rose's Winning WITB

Welcome back to another edition of the Sunday Swing presented by 2nd Swing Golf. This week, the FedEx Cup playoffs began at the St. Jude Classic from TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN. The top-70 players were competing for only 50 spots at next week's BMW Championship, before a final cut down to 30 for the Tour Championship.
Englishman Justin Rose has proven time and time again that he can still compete at the highest level against the game's best players, even at 45 years old. Rose came close earlier this season when he lost to Rory McIlroy in a playoff at the Masters, while also sprinkling in three other top-10 finishes throughout the season. He qualified for the FedEx Cup playoffs for the 15th time in his career, winning it once back in 2018. With hopes of competing for the title again, Rose needed a big week to maintain and perhaps improve his position inside the top-30 in the FedEx Cup standings.
Rose did exactly what he needed to do to start the week, opening with rounds of 64 and 66 to put himself in the thick of it heading to the weekend. Fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Scottie Scheffler and JJ Spaun (the two most recent major champions) were also in the hunt through 36 holes.
After another solid round of 67 in the third round, Rose found himself trailing Fleetwood by just one heading into the final round. A tough start to the final round almost dropped Rose out of contention entirely, but he caught fire at the perfect moment. He made birdies on Nos. 14-17 to jump all the way into a share for the lead with Spaun and Fleetwood. A late bogey on the 17th by Fleetwood would result in a two-way tie between Rose and Spaun, who would head back to the 18th for a sudden death playoff.
After tying the first two holes of the playoff, both players hit excellent shots into the 18th green after the hole location was changed. Rose rolled in his birdie putt from just outside 11-feet, while Spaun missed from a few feet closer, which gave Rose his 12th PGA Tour title. Just as importantly, Rose moved all the way from 25th to the 4th position in the FedEx standings, essentially locking up a spot at the Tour Championship.
Winner's Bag | Justin Rose
Justin Rose claimed his 12th PGA Tour title on Sunday at TPC Southwind in Memphis. He relied on accurate driving, precision iron play, and a steady putter to outlast JJ Spaun, Tommy Fleetwood, and Scottie Scheffler down the stretch. Rose employs one of the most unique club setups on tour.

Driver: Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond (9 degrees)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Diamana WB 63 TX
Starting with his driver, Rose plays the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond (9 degrees) with a Diamana WB 63 TX shaft. Rose finished the week in the top 20 in both strokes gained off the tee and driving accuracy.
Mini Driver: TaylorMade R7 Quad (13 degrees)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Diamana WB 63 TX
Rose also carries TaylorMade’s latest mini driver: the R7 Quad (13 degrees) with the same shaft setup as his normal driver. More and more, tour players are making the same move as Rose and opting to include a mini driver as a secondary tee club option. And the decision appears to be paying off.
5-wood: TaylorMade M6 (17 degrees)
Shaft: Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 80 TX
Rose carries one fairway wood, a TaylorMade M6 5-wood (17 degrees) with a HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 80 TX shaft. It’s worth noting the M6 line from Taylormade is now six years old, another example of fairway wood longevity on the PGA Tour.
Irons: Titleist 620 CB (4-6), Miura MC-502 (7-PW)
Shafts: KBS C-Taper 125 S+
Rose’s iron setup is highly unique. He plays a combo set featuring the Titleist 620 CBs (4-6), and Miura MC 502s (7-PW) with KBS C-Taper 125 stiff shafts. Rose gained 5.6 shots over the field on approach this week, and stellar iron shots helped him make four consecutive birdies at the end of Sunday’s round to force a playoff.
Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (52-08F, 56-08M), Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks (60-K)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Onyx S400
Around the greens, Rose carries three Titleist wedges. His gap wedge (52-degree) and sand wedge (56-degree)) are the latest Titleist Vokey Design SM10, while his lob wedge is a Vokey Design WedgeWorks (60-degree). All three wedges are paired with the Dynamic Gold S400 Tour Issue (Onyx) shaft.
Putter: Scotty Cameron Phantom T-5 Tour Prototype
Grip: SuperStroke Zenergy Claw 1.0
Another highlight for Rose this week was his putter. He plays a Scotty Cameron Phantom T-5 Tour Prototype, which helped him to finish seventh in putting this week, and make numerous clutch putts on Sunday, including the tournament-winner on the third playoff hole.
